I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY DAD THAT IS BLIND SO WHEN HE NEEDS ME I AM OUT SIDE HE HAS A WAY TO GET HOLD OF ME, THE BUTTONS ON THE SIDE IS BIG ENOUGH THAT HE CAN FIND IT AND IT BEEPS LET HIM KNOW THAT HE CAN TALK. HOW FAR I CAN GO WITH IT IS NOT BAD YOU CANT GO 10 MILES WITH IT BUT I THINK IT IS BECAUSE I LIVE IN A HILLY AREA. BUT IF ARE OUT IN THE FEILD OR IN THE WOODS YOU SHOULD BE OK. THE BATTARY LIFE IS NOT BAD . I WENT 2 DAY ALMOST 3 DAYS BEFORE I HAD TO CHARGE IT. BUT THAT IS WITH NOT USE IT MUCH. ITS NOT BAD THE HEAD SET FEELS LITTLE OFF TO ME THAT COULD JUST BE ME. IT WORTH THE MONEY IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO SIMPLE THINGS WITH IT.
The Midland GXT1000VP4 50 channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio works fine over short distances. I have not had any luck with 36-mile range. The range is a few miles under good conditions, but that is all I need. The good things about the pair of radios is that you have 50 channels and encoding to select the radios that will receive the signal. You can add more radios and make this a good radio system with parents on one channel and others on other channels. It is very useful. The radio also has 3 power levels to select from to conserve the included rechargeable battery backs. A charger that operates on a 120 VAC wall wart or a 12 VDC using a cigarette lighter receptacle. The charger will charge both radios at the same time. The battery packs are also designed to use non-rechargeable batteries if desired. Accessories include belt clips, a headset/mics and for each radio. The Midland GTX1000VP4 FMS/GMRS Two-Way Radio is an excellent to use or as a present for anyone needing one. One additional feature I should mention is the CALL button which causes the radio you are calling to Ring alerting the radio called to respond to the caller.
These are great little radio's , not as good as a mobile unit but much better than a FRS radio. Easy to get a license but of course it is on a government website so a little confusing . $35 for ten years, no test and your family is covered. These do not connect to repeaters but can connect to other hand held several miles away even in congested areas.
I'm new to two-way radios however my first two-way radio that I bought for the family was FRS radios I upgraded to GMRS since GRS has better range sound and more functionalities even though it needs licensing overall, this is a great radio and very satisfied with it I have also ordered Midland brand to wear radios FRS system since the quality and the sound of this radios are awesome.
Prefect small radio to switch between vehicles with out needing to hardwire in something. Really like the weather built in.
I bought these radios for my crews pulling cable and they have had nothing but good things to say about them ! They really like the larger clips so they can attach them to their harnesses. They are very clear sounding and the battery life is excellent!
We farm in east central Kansas and needed portable radios we could use for a variety of activities sometimes miles apart. These radios fit the need well. One radio with the hand microphone moves from whatever the main equipment is that day or week(s) and the other stays at home or if we are shuttling equipment around. Using RAM mounts to easily move one from tractor to tractor.
Excellent walkie talkies, I have tested around 500 mts- 1640 Ft between cars and sounded great. The Vox option it´s great because you can use it just talking, you need to start with a short word, like "one" in order to Vox get activated and start talking in order not to cut your message. Vox function is great because you can get "fingerpain" as my kid said if you use a lot the PTT button. I haven´t tested how far it can work but it sattisfied my necessities. Included rechargeable battery is just ok, ( NiMH 6 V 700ma), if you want a better lasting, you can use 4 spare AA rechargeable batteries.
A good complete package except the box says "Instruction manual included". In fact there is no manual but you can download one on the Midland website. You probably will be heading over there right after opening the box and charging the 2 radios up as they are quite complicated at first. The radios look and feel durable and are rated as waterproof. The set comes complete with rechargable batteries, charging station, 110v and 12v chargers and 2 headsets for hands free use. Once you figgure out how to set the radios to VOX then using either the built in mike or the supplied headset then hands free talking should be easy. We wanted this feature for backing up our RV and the VOX works well but the supplied headsets are about useless as the mike needs to be right in front of your mouth and they just won't stay there as the ear piece is too floppy. You can hold the mike by your mouth but then you can't steer the Rv or give hand signals to the driver.
They advertise these to reach 36 miles. I got outside and started walking down the road. There were no curves and no obstruction, it was as straight and clear as it could be. I walked almost a thousand feet and that's as far as they will work. I would have been tickled if they would have just made a mile, but these walkie talkies just can't do it. I definitely do not recommend, go with another brand..
